The on-again, off-again pairing of John Mayer and Katy Perry is officially off after US Weekly confirmed the split on Tuesday. The couple began dating back in mid-2012, but their love seems to have a few bumps in the road.
The duo was spotted at the West Hollywood hotspot Soho House in June. Perry was rebounding from her breakup with husband Russell Brand at the time, so many insiders believed it was a short-term relationship.
The first time around, it was. The couple split up in August almost as soon as the tabloids began covering the romance. Mayer's reputation with the ladies in Hollywood certainly didn't help his cause.

At the time a source told People, "They were honestly having fun. People made it out to be far more than it was."
It couldn't have been too serious at the time since reports even suggested that Mayer broke up with the "Teenage Dream" star via email. The "No Such Thing" singer was supposedly upset by Perry's partying ways.
He couldn't have been too upset since the couple reconciled the next month and settled into their courtship by spending the holiday season together. She even told her Twitter followers on March 2 , "My boyfriend is taking me to a kitten shelter in his truck."
Did John Mayer put a ring on it?>>
The breakup this time around appears to be work-related since Perry is recording her third studio album on the West Coast while Mayer is preparing for his first tour dates after a long recovery from throat surgery last year.
Don't place any bets yet on a permanent breakup though. A source told US Weekly, "It's not over until it's over. You have to see how things play out."
Another source added, "She's leaving the window open. They have both been so focused on work."
There has been no official comment from either music star, but perhaps Perry was alluding to her relationship woes yesterday when she tweeted, "ATTENTION: Mercury is OUT of retrograde today. Thank GOD."
