Katy Perry is probably hoping this week will pass by quickly. Not only did she split with her latest beau, John Mayer, but her ex-husband Russell Brand is now revealing intimate details of their breakup.
On Tuesday, the comedian was co-hosting a benefit for the SFM Teenage Cancer Trust Show when he took a little ribbing from his co-hosts about the short-lived marriage to Perry.
Brand shared, "That marriage was shaky from the get-go, before I’d even got off the elephant."
The wedding took place in India back in October 2010 where they followed the Indian tradition of the bridegroom arriving via elephant.
Perhaps the Forgetting Sarah Marshall star revealed too much when he said, "It was a drag, man. Let me tell you a thing about marriage. Marriage is a bond that can last up to 14 months. This is a sacred 14-month arrangement. Begins on an elephant. Ends in a newspaper."
In all fairness, Perry did delicately address the breakup in her 2012 documentary, Katy Perry: Part of Me, because she was filming at the same time the news hit the papers.
She talked about it last July to MTV News saying, "Everything has to be handled with integrity and appropriately, and it's not nice to air all your dirty laundry, because that stinks, so I had to be very delicate with the situation, but I couldn't avoid the elephant in the room."
John Mayer and Katy Perry break up for the second time>>
Perry and Brand definitely had an elephant theme working in their marriage. For fans that saw her behind-the-scenes look at her life, they are aware that she faced the issue head on.
The "Teenage Dream" singer continued, "If you were to have seen that movie and walked out and [my breakup] wasn't at all mentioned like it never happened, you'd be like, 'Eh, this is weird, what is she trying to hide?' I don't like to hide."
Hopefully Perry will hold her head high since two public breakups in a row are difficult for anyone to weather, even a successful pop star.
